Join us at Oceanside Museum of Art for a hands-on Silkscreen Printmaking Workshop on Sunday, April 12, from 2–5 p.m. Guided by artist and educator Frol Boundin, Associate Faculty for Art at MiraCosta College, participants will learn the fundamentals of silkscreen printing and create their own original prints to take home. This workshop is inspired by OMA’s "Matrix Multiplied: Hybrid Approaches to Printmaking" exhibition, which explores the dynamic world of printmaking and the idea of the “matrix,” which is the surface from which multiple prints are created. The exhibition highlights how artists use printmaking techniques to produce repeated images while experimenting with variation, layering, and color. Silkscreen printing is one of the most iconic methods for multiplying images, making it a perfect entry point into the themes of the exhibition. During the session, Frol will introduce the tools and processes of silkscreen printing and guide participants step-by-step through preparing a screen, applying ink, and pulling prints. All materials are included in the workshop fee, and no prior experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to get a little messy. On March 28, Sound Praxis presents an evening of duo and solo improvised music featuring bicoastal percussion duo Ben Rempel & Justin Gunter, Ana Luisa Díaz de Cossío, and 1515 (Ryan Ebaugh & Jonathan Piper). This presentation is generously hosted by the Brown Building in City Heights! Justin Gunter and Ben Rempel are percussionists based in NYC and LA. Having met in music school, they’ve reunited to form a percussion duo rooted in their wide-ranging shared musical interests. In a style that feels organic and intuitive, their music combines free improvisation, complex rhythmic composition, minimalism, classical percussion sensitivity, and a sensibility for groove. As an improviser, Ana Luisa Díaz de Cossío is drawn to the quiet thresholds of daily life. She works with the mundane and the overlooked, with found materials and unstable textures, allowing sound to emerge from what is already present. De Cossio is interested in micro-gestures: sounds that crack, bend, fray, dissolve. Sounds that feel provisional, alive. Improvisation is at the center of her work not as a technique, but as a way of being, as an act of care and commitment to presence, to responsiveness, to the unknown. 1515 is a collaborative duo of Jonathan Piper (tuba) and Ryan Ebaugh (sax). On Tuesday morning, San Diego-area Muslim leaders, including those from the Islamic Center of San Diego, identified the victims of the shooting as Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha and Nadir Awad. Abdullah was the security guard at the facility who was being hailed as a hero for saving lives during the shooting.

Mission Hills Heritage (MHH) is shining a spotlight on one of the neighborhood’s most iconic—and often overlooked—architectural styles with its upcoming Mid-Century Modern Weekend event, a celebration of design, community, and preservation. Home to one of the region’s largest concentrations of mid-century architecture, Mission Hills features work by celebrated architects like Frederick Liebhardt, Lloyd Ruocco, and Homer Delawie. “In 20 years, we’ve never focused exclusively on this important genre,” says MHH co-founder Barry Hager. “It’s time.” The May event is designed as a dynamic two-day experience. The weekend begins Friday, May 15 with the debut of the Modernism Mixer, an exclusive reception hosted at a private mid-century home in Mission Hills. Guests will enjoy sweeping panoramic views from SeaWorld to the University of San Diego, exclusive access to portions of the home’s interior, a curated wine bar, and a surprise VIP guest.
