  • Comic-Con International and San Diego Public Library have teamed up for the Comic Conference for Educators and Librarians. This FREE five-day conference will take place at the San Diego Central Library during Comic-Con® from July 20-24, and will explore the role comics play in promoting education and literacy for all ages. Those in the library and education fields are invited to learn creative and exciting ways to incorporate comics and other popular arts into their work. Through presentations and panel discussions, the Conference hopes to engage the community and promote comics as a medium for learning. The Conference is free to attend, but space is limited and registration is required for each day. Comic-Con badge-holders with valid single same-day or four-day badges are welcome to attend and are not required to register.   • This will be a presentation and discussion on the subject of Yiddish regional dialects, issues of language status, social identity and history of multilingualism. Using regional dialect maps of Europe as a basis the discussion will then range to uses of Yiddish in the Americas and Israel as well as in Hasidic contexts. About the instructor: Dr. Miriam Isaacs is a scholar, writer, translator, and educator specializing in Yiddish language and culture. She is a native Yiddish speaker and has taught Yiddish courses at the University of Maryland and lectured internationally. Dr. Isaacs has given lectures and workshops for Yiddish New York, UC Berkeley, the Library of Congress, the Jewish Genealogical Society, among others.
