The 47th annual Mt. Carmel Tournament of Bands, one of Southern California’s largest and oldest high school marching band competitions, is set for Saturday, Oct. 26 at Mt. Carmel High School in Rancho Penasquitos. The tournament will showcase the music and artistic pageantry of 30 high school marching bands from across Southern California and will feature both parade and field show competitions. Field show performances by small bands will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mt. Carmel’s Sundevil Stadium, followed by a free parade band review from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the school’s parking lot. Field shows with large bands are planned from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Sundevil Stadium. Food, drink and merchandise concessions will be available throughout the day and evening. Tickets for the field shows can be purchased the day of the tournament at the stadium ticket window. General admission prices are $15 for adults; $12 for students, seniors and military; and free for children 5 and under. This year we are building awareness for lung health in a whole new way, with an exclusive pickleball Tournament and Celebration of lung health! This year, ABC’s First Golden Bachelor and Pickleball enthusiast Gerry Turner will be joining us in the celebrity match on Center Court with other notable American Lung Association friends. Whether a first-time player or weekend warrior, all are welcome to join and compete against other local mission-oriented business and community members from across Southern California. The day starts with a free clinic by a pickleball pro followed by various skill level tournaments. The top two teams from each tournament will then compete on Center Court for awards and bragging rights! Top fundraising teams will also be acknowledged too! Palomar Health is hosting a free online seminar on the physical and psychological effects of hearing loss. Palomar Health’s Chief of Audiology and Hearing Services, David M. Illich, Au.D., will host a review of the most current worldwide research. The primary focus will cover how hearing loss specifically affects our brain’s cognitive abilities. Participants can expect to receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of registration.
