  • The City of Encinitas, in partnership with the North Coast Symphony Orchestra, presents the inaugural 2024 Youth Piano Concerto Competition Concert on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas. The award-winning performers include Frank Luo, Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23 in A, Movement 3; Luna Lee, Beethoven Concerto No 1, Movement 3; and Maxwell Tran, Shostakovich Concerto No. 2, Movement 1. The winners competed for the first-place prize of a $250 contract to perform one movement of a selected concerto with the orchestra on a Steinway D concert grand piano. The orchestra will also perform Beethoven’s Prometheus Overture. Admission: $25 first row, $15 general. They will explore the torments of passion in the music of Monteverdi, Rossi, Legrenzi, Cavalli, and others in an exciting San Diego debut. Opera Prima’s recording of John Dowland has been described as “wonderfully free and inventive, quirky and virtuosic… expressive throughout” (D. James Ross, Early Music Review, 2023). For her part, Forsythe is lauded as “one of the best Baroque sopranos on the scene today. Her voice is light and nimble, and her high notes spin with vibrato and subtle dynamic shading” (Aaron Keebaugh, Boston Classical Review, 2018).
