Learn Block Printing on Fabric! Thursday, October 15, from 6-8:30 p.m. Learn the process of block printing on fabric in this beginner-friendly 2.5 hour workshop! Led by local-artist and printmaker Kasey Leung, you’ll be guided step-by-step through designing, carving, and hand-printing your very own original block. Use it to create a custom tote bag or tea towel in class – perfect for everyday use or a thoughtful handmade gift. We’ll explore simple pattern-building and placement techniques to help bring your design to life on fabric. The emphasis is on process over perfection, with plenty of room to experiment and enjoy making with your hands. No experience needed and all materials are provided. Feel free to come to class with ideas, inspiration, or printed reference images for printing – just keep in mind that your design will need to fit within a 4×6 inch block. You’ll leave with a finished textile piece and your carved block to take home, so you can keep printing and creating long after the workshops ends! Please note there is a materials fee of $5 paid directly to the instructor at the beginning of class. JaZz Party! plays cool and fun music for all ages that will have your toes tapping and fingers snapping. For this event, we will add some Halloween-themed jazz standards. JaZz Party! features a wonderful, female vocalist accompanied by piano, bass, and drums. Choose from 2 upcoming dates: Oct. 11, 2-4:30 p.m. or Oct. 18, 9-11:30 a.m. Spend a couple hours in the woodshop designing, milling, and shaping a board into your own custom charcuterie board. This class moves pretty fast and you’ll be surprised how much you get done in two and half hours. Students will use a bandsaw, jigsaw, drill press and sander in this workshop. All the tools and materials will be provided. You will learn how to choose interesting pieces of wood, mill them down, cut your shape, and put a finish on it so it’s ready to serve. Explore Shibori techniques! Saturdays, Oct 10, 2-5 p.m. & Oct 17, 3-5 p.m. Beginners and more advanced dyers welcome! Ages 12+ years! Join us for a fun, hands‑on Natural Indigo Dyeing Shibori class with Instructor Sarah Winston. This 2‑day class emphasizes process over final outcomes, encouraging students to enjoy the journey of making—discovering the pleasure and satisfaction that comes from using one’s hands and eyes, building skills, and developing a thoughtful, flexible creative mind. Each student will dip their projects in a natural indigo vat to achieve the classic blue hue. Across the two days, Sarah will teach two dye‑resist techniques while students work on a bamboo scarf and a cotton scarf. On Day 1, students will learn and practice Ori‑nui shibori (stitch resist), a more intricate method where motifs are drawn and stitched with a simple running stitch. After dipping the textiles in indigo, the thread is pulled tight and the fabric is dyed. Once unstitched, the motifs reveal wondrous images and designs. On Day 2, students will explore Itajime shibori (shape resist), a playful technique where fabric is folded and pressed between shaped blocks. When unfolded, the fabric reveals beautiful kaleidoscopic designs. This class is an excellent opportunity for complete beginners as well as more advanced students who want to delve deeper into indigo dyeing with resist techniques. Ages 12+ years old.
