Learn to throw ceramics on a wheel! Sundays, January 4, 11, 18, 25 & February 8, from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Ages 16+ years welcome! Refine your throwing skills and explore various forms. Weekly demonstrations are given in this intermediate class. Demonstrating forms such as sectional throwing, throwing off the hump, making lids, colored slips, as well as making your own colored clay and designs. In this 5-week course, intermediate students can refine techniques, explore new forms, and build consistency. Individual guidance meets you where you’re at, assisting returning to the wheel with more confidence. The class will begin with an overview of the basics (wedging, centering, pulling, etc) to build a solid foundation and help give students confidence to take on more complex forms. The Rhoades School’s Girl Rising Club – a middle school girls-led club that works to raise money to give girls across Guatemala, Bangladesh, and the Philippines access to education – is inviting the wider community to attend their cultural bazaar on April 24 from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. located at 910 Encinitas Blvd, Encinitas. This event is FREE to the public (no ticket required) and will feature students’ handmade crafts, jewelry, food and baked goods, and a raffle with prizes from local businesses like Cinepolis and Aloha that are available to purchase to support girls’ education worldwide. Additionally, a panel of young student refugees from the International Rescue Committee will be sharing their stories of courage and perseverance after resettling and pursuing their education in San Diego.
