  • Choosing a language school for your child from a website is hard, so before the year starts the Italian school of San Diego is opening its new Encinitas location for an evening. One hour, free, and you can simply walk in. This evening covers the classes for children. We show you the two classrooms, introduce the teachers, and explain how classes are organized by age and level. The rest of the hour is for your questions. Classes for children begin Monday, September 14, and meet Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m., transitional kindergarten through 5th grade. Pre-enrollment closes August 31, so the evening leaves you the rest of the week to decide. Ample free parking on site, right next to the classrooms. Create a professional arm-rod-and-mouth puppet of your very own from Rene Rubalcava, owner and puppeteer of LV Puppet Studio of Las Vegas who learned the art of puppet making from a Jim Henson Muppeteer. There's no better time to create your own one-of-a-kind fuzzy monster! In this workshop, we guide you from start to finish as you select, cut, hot glue and assemble the pieces and personality of your own customized puppet. No sewing is required in this workshop. Students bring their puppets to life with their own unique interests and imaginations, and by choice and placement of different face details. Each one is unique!   • San Diego Seniors Community Foundation (SDSCF), the first community foundation in the United States dedicated exclusively to seniors, is holding a special screening of the "Saving Claire: The Story of Denying Gravity" on September 22 with the goal to teach older adults to learn how to fall. Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults. Over 14 million, or 1 in 4 older adults report falling every year and result in over 3 million emergency department visits and nearly 1 million hospitalizations annually. The San Diego community including, older adults, seniors, families, service groups, senior communities, and caregivers are invited to come to view this free film (run-time is 39 minutes). The goal is to not only help individuals learn these critical skills for themselves but also to educate attendees to go out into the community and share the fall prevention knowledge to help others. The statistics speak for themselves. In 2021, falls caused 38,000 deaths among those age 65+, and emergency departments reported 3 million visits due to older adult falls.   • Presented by the Friends of International Friendship Park, "The Traveling Tables of Amistad" will be on view in a two-week pop-up exhibit at the Museum of Us from September 6–19, 2026. Commissioned by Friends of International Friendship Park and created by local sculptor Michael Leaf, the installation transforms segments of the former border wall into community tables designed to bring people together. The pop-up exhibit is included with general admission.
