In this session, you will create your own alebrije, a one-of-a-kind magical creature utilizing different media, choosing its colors, patterns, and personality. Discover the colorful world of Mexican Alebrijes and learn about the imaginative creatures that have become an iconic part of Mexican folk art. In the first class, we will create the forms for our creatures. And in the second class, we will spend time painting and adding color and pattern to our dried pieces. Persian Place at San Diego Design Week September 19 | 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. NewSchool of Architecture & Design Persian Place is proud to be part of San Diego Design Week, bringing Persian art, architecture, and design to the San Diego design community. Join us for a day of hands-on workshops exploring the rich traditions of Persian design—from Persian tile design and woodblock printing to Persian rug design and calligraphy. Workshops are open to NewSchool students as well as the broader San Diego Design Week community. The day will also feature a Persian art exhibition and a collaborative community art project created in partnership with the Visions Museum of Textile Art. Cedros Ave, Solana Beach, CA 92075 Limited Spots Available! Flowers and flour take center stage in this workshop, where hand-tied floral design meets the art of floral sourdough scoring. Floral forms and patterns become the inspiration for scoring designs, translating botanical beauty into edible art. This collaborative workshop begins with hand-tied flower arranging, where you’ll learn how to create a beautifully wrapped floral bundle using fresh seasonal blooms. With guidance from one of Native Poppy’s professional florists, you’ll explore balance, color pairing, and foundational techniques. The workshop continues with floral sourdough scoring led by Katrina of The Sourdough Mama. Using a prepared sourdough loaf, you’ll translate floral forms and patterns into a scored design before taking your loaf home to bake and enjoy—no baking experience is required. Join us on September 20th at 2pm for a Mural Dedication and Art Walkabout at Sarah Stieber's 2026 Pop-up Art Gallery! The Point Loma Association collaborated with local San Diego Artist @SarahStieber to paint a mural in Point Loma, at the corner of Rosecrans and Upshur in La Playa. Two doors down from her mural, Stieber collaborated with local Real Estate Agent Anne Herrin and Diane Sullivan to host a pop-up art gallery. At 1021 Rosecrans Street you can meet the artist, view, and purchase paintings by Sarah Stieber. The gallery is open on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12-4pm, and by appointment. The Point Loma Association is hosting a mural dedication party and art walkabout this Sunday, September 20th. The program starts in the art gallery at 1021 Rosecrans Street at 2pm.

San Diego residents can meet first responders, learn practical skills, understand available local resources and see a San Diego Police drone demonstration at a free Community Security & Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free public event will be held indoors at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6767 51st St., San Diego, CA 92120. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. No reservation is required. The fair is open to the public and offers free onsite parking. An FBI special agent will open the program at 9 a.m. with a presentation on Run, Hide, Fight techniques. The day also includes a San Diego Police drone demonstration at 11:05 a.m., a fire engine available for viewing and photographs, and hourly raffle drawings beginning at 10 a.m. Attendees may choose from short breakout sessions on emergency power, severe-weather preparation, estate planning, evacuation planning, food storage, gardening, and general emergency preparedness. Information tables will feature SDG&E, San Diego Fire-Rescue, San Diego Police, American Red Cross, Team Rubicon, UC Master Gardeners, UC Master Food Preservers, the City of San Diego Office of Emergency Services and other preparedness partners. Spanish translation, bottled water, and freshly popped popcorn will be available. The fair is designed to help individuals and families prepare for fires, floods, earthquakes, power outages, evacuations and other emergencies.
