Located in the Carmel Mountain Plaza, Handel’s invites the community to join them starting at 11 a.m. for a fun-filled day celebrating the arrival of their premium, small-batch ice cream. Get there early, as the first 30 guests in line starting at 11 a.m. will receive an exclusive Handel’s spoon. Celebrate the Summer Solstice with an evening of movement, sound, and connection in a beautiful greenhouse setting. This immersive experience is designed to help you slow down, reset, and honor the shift in season surrounded by lush plants, golden light, and community. We’ll begin with a grounding, all-levels yoga flow to release stagnant energy and reconnect to the body. From there, you’ll be guided into a deeply restorative meditation, accompanied by a soothing sound bath to help you fully unwind and integrate. Each guest will receive a thoughtfully curated solstice goodie bag, generously provided by our event sponsors—adding a little extra magic to the evening. Mats are provided. Create a unique meditation station or altar! Mondays, June 29 & July 13, from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Ages 15+ welcome! In this 2-part series, students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create functional and fun pieces. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques to create one of a kind ceramic altars. Students will create and build their piece in the first and second class and glaze their creations in the last class. Students will learn the art of glazing, with many decorative techniques. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors in this course. No experience necessary. All materials provided. Additional optional materials available via the instructor for a fee. Items shown in photo (tarot card, crystals, candle, etc are not included). Learn to Carve a Scandinavian Eater or Serving Spoon! Sunday, June 28, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. In this intermediate spoon carving workshop, Woodworker Paul Maschka guides students as they grow their carving skills. This class is for students who have taken Beginner Spoon Carving with Paul or have done some prior intricate wood carving with carving knives. Students will learn and use specific Scandinavian style tools to create beautiful yet functional spoons for eating or serving food. Students will learn to carve from a green log of wood to a finished, elegant spoon, while also learning safe tool practices, proper body mechanics, and how to sharpen your carving tools. All tools and supplies will be provided for this course. Prerequisite: This class is designed for the intermediate carver. Students should have either taken Beginner Spoon Carving with Paul, or have previous experience with intricate wood carving, before enrolling in this workshop. All of the necessary tools and materials will be available to students for this class. Tools and chopping blocks will be available for purchase after the class. No experience necessary. The Spreckels Organ Society presents the 38th Annual San Diego International Summer Organ Festival, the largest organ festival in the United States, featuring the historic Spreckels Organ, the largest open-air musical instrument in the world, with 5,098 pipes of up to 32-feet long, and nine percussion instruments located throughout the building. The ever-popular season finale, featuring “ORGAN-ISM,” the Spreckels Organ Pavilion’s Rock Band – the only Rock Band in the world that features a real pipe organ! They will be performing great hits by The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Deep Purple and more... The summer-long festival – directed by Raúl Prieto Ramírez, Spreckels Organ Society’s Artistic Director and San Diego’s Civic Organist – takes place in the heart of Balboa Park, from July 13 through Sept. 7.
