Learn to Warp & Weave! Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Learn the ancient fiber craft of weaving your own fabric using a Rigid Heddle Loom and natural fibers. In his hands-on workshop, Weaver & Dyer Jeanine Ertl will teach you everything you need to know to warp and weave on your own. This class is perfect for anyone who’s been curious about weaving beyond a lap loom and wants to learn the warping and weaving processes. We’ll dive into fiber & fabric and demystify the process of getting set up (otherwise known as warping a loom), weaving, and finally, finishing and removing a woven fiber good from the loom! And, you’ll go home with handwoven fabric in-hand. Length of the final piece will depend on the individual’s own pace. In this workshop you’ll learn how: a rigid heddle loom works; to plan a textile (e.g. sett, basic pattern & choosing fiber, etc.); to warp a rigid heddle; to weave; to remove your handwoven; and to finish a textile. All materials to warp & weave a sample are included for use. You may also bring your own rigid heddle to learn with. The loom should be set up and in working order and ready to warp and weave on. No experience necessary. In this class we’ll be generating a slew of poems together. Our focus will begin with creating poems that stir the senses. With prompts, we’ll use all our senses throughout the class to discover the words underneath. We will also carve out time to revise our work using some of the most exciting tools for revision by beloved poets Mary Oliver, Maya Angelou and exciting voices Amanda Gorman and Andrea Gibson. In the dead of a Minnesota winter, Asian drumming divas smash gender roles and redefine power on their own terms. the film dives into the rhythms and struggles that lead to an electrifying historic performance that changes everything.

Applicable to comedy, drama, and reality, this unique course is designed for creative aspiring writers with no prior experience—as well as those with screenwriting experience—who seek to break into television writing. Learn in an interactive environment the basics of creating, writing, and presenting your first television script for both drama and/or comedy, including how to take your idea to the next step and create a complete half-hour or one-hour television script. Beginning and professional writers are welcome. Prior screenwriting experience is not required. The course will cover: - The steps usually taken for a first-time television writer towards writing the first script (general idea, character development, style, story acts, etc.) - Structure - Character development - The importance of your first script as a calling card - How to find an agent and get your script read - Who should you be writing for - Who does what job on a television series - The outlets for new shows and new ideas - Developing your idea - The best way to write for you - The Writers’ Room - Collaboration processes - Overview of winning past and current television show scripts - Feedback on your current concepts, outline, scenes and scripts Students will be emailed several TV scripts (shooting drafts) in PDF format prior to the first-class session (and more during the course) to be read in advance if possible. Learn to Carve a Scandinavian Eater or Serving Spoon! Sunday, June 28, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. In this intermediate spoon carving workshop, Woodworker Paul Maschka guides students as they grow their carving skills. This class is for students who have taken Beginner Spoon Carving with Paul or have done some prior intricate wood carving with carving knives. Students will learn and use specific Scandinavian style tools to create beautiful yet functional spoons for eating or serving food. Students will learn to carve from a green log of wood to a finished, elegant spoon, while also learning safe tool practices, proper body mechanics, and how to sharpen your carving tools. All tools and supplies will be provided for this course. Prerequisite: This class is designed for the intermediate carver. Students should have either taken Beginner Spoon Carving with Paul, or have previous experience with intricate wood carving, before enrolling in this workshop.
