Peggy Price (103), Walt Travis (102), and Bill Hiscock (101). Bill served with the 20th Armored Division in World War II, crossing the Rhine and fighting in the Battle of the Ruhr Pocket before his division helped liberate Dachau. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge and a Bronze Star for bravery. Walt is the oldest living member of the Marine Corps League. And Peggy has kept fitness at the center of her life since 1968, when she joined one of Coronado’s first community fitness programs — modeled after the Royal Canadian Air Force. Drawing as many as 75 people — a spark that kept her active for the rest of her life. Three centenarians, three very different paths to a hundred plus years — all in one room, sharing their wit and wisdom. The conversation will be led by Cynthia Mendolia, National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach specializing in aging and longevity with special guest Jill Olen, for the National Institute on Aging. For years, El Cajon has long been a hub for refugees and immigrants from the Middle East and North Africa. Now, amid President Donald Trump’s refugee ban, they are coping with the help of neighborhood ties and a local nonprofit.

This solo show by artist Elvin Armando is curated by Thumbprint Gallery and presented in the front main gallery space at Distinction Gallery. The show opens on Saturday, October 10, at 317 E. Grand Ave., Suite A, Escondido, CA 92025, from 6 p.m.to 10 p.m. as part of the monthly Second Saturday Art Walk in downtown Escondido, a community-wide celebration of local galleries, museums, and creative spaces. The VVSD Stand Down Resource Event is a transformative two-day outreach event that unites San Diego's community around a shared mission: ensuring every veteran has access to the services and support they have earned. More than 150 service providers, government agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations gather at the Ingram Plaza at Liberty Station Arts District to deliver critical resources in a dignified, welcoming, one-stop-shop environment.
