Shakespeare Fellow Jack Krepps will present “Shakespeare and the Revolution.” Jack is part of the American Revolution & Constitution History Project at San Diego State University. In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, Jack has conducted exclusive research on the impact of Shakespeare and his works on the Founders and on early American society as a whole. Further, he has evaluated the correlation between Shakespeare and the events that unfolded in 1776, as well as existing Shakespearian notions regarding “independence” and other relevant governmental issues. Up-Cycling + Sustainable Fashion // Ideal for ages 8-12 Over the course of 6 weeks, young creators dive into the world of sustainable fashion and learn how to design with the planet in mind! This course introduces kids to the basics of eco-friendly fashion, showing them how to transform old or outgrown clothing into fresh, original pieces through up-cycling and thoughtful design. Each week brings a new theme—such as sketching and planning, simple stitching skills, creative mending, embellishment techniques, and building a final wearable project. Students will practice customizing a tote bag, refreshing denim, creating patches from scrap fabrics, and reimagining garments through their own personal style. Along the way, kids learn why sustainability matters in fashion, gaining awareness of waste, reuse, and conscious creativity. The class encourages problem-solving, confidence, and self-expression while giving students real design experience in a fun, supportive environment. By the end of the six weeks, every young designer will have a mini portfolio, several up-cycled creations, and a final wearable piece they’ve re-imagined and made themselves. No previous sewing or design experience required—just curiosity, creativity, and clothes ready for a second life! "The Gun" Directed by Shaya Chesner Shaya (30) is married to Moriah and is father to Maayan (2). He is literally attached at the hip to his handgun. As a result of the need to renew his firearms license, Shaya embarks on a journey of clarification regarding his fears after suffering post-trauma in the IDF. "Hope… In the Aftermath of War" Directed by Daniel Bernardi After returning from combat, a soldier’s struggle with trauma, addiction, and fractured family ties forces her daughter to confront the quiet war unfolding at home—one that neither of them signed up for but both must survive. "A Ranger Works Here" Directed by Tim Yao “A Ranger Works Here” is a documentary following Oskar Zepeda’s PTSD growth journey after suffering a grenade blast while serving in the U.S. Army. Like fermentation, complex essays emerge through layering and time. In this class, you’ll practice tracing research paths and integrating outside sources into your personal narrative essay. We’ll focus on enlivening writing through research by helping you craft essays that are both intellectually grounded and supported by lyricism and story. Through close readings of researched personal essays, we’ll look at how writers braid research it into their own narratives. The session will include discussion, brief writing and research exercises, and generative prompts to support writers as you begin this process.
