We are pleased to announce the dates for the 27th Athenaeum Summer Festival, a series of four concerts that will feature virtuoso pianist Gustavo Romero. Continuing a beloved tradition, this summer Gustavo Romero will celebrate what he notes as Romantic Fire and the Spanish Soul, through a focus on the piano music of Hungarian Franz Liszt, and will be combined with works by Spanish composers Albeniz, Granados, and Manuel De Falla. Dinners will be offered at the Athenaeum after the first and last concerts (July 5 and 26), providing a unique opportunity for concertgoers to socialize, meet Mr. Romero, and share a delicious meal, catered by Girard Gourmet Athenaeum Music & Arts Library on Instagram and Facebook

Explore color & weave effect with Log Cabin pattern! Saturday, August 22, from 1-6 p.m. In this 5-hour hands-on workshop, weavers who’ve explored the direct warping (rigid heddle) technique will learn to warp to create a multi-color textile, creating the classic pattern of log cabin. This pattern creates a 3D-effect using alternating colors in warp and weft, making it a great next step for weavers of all skill levels. In class, students will first learn best practices for warping their looms with multiple colors. You may borrow a rigid heddle loom to warp on or bring your own (please leave a note in the comments on which loom you will bring to warp if bringing your own). The remainder of the class will cover learning to weave with more than one color as weft and how to manage and create clean and balanced selvedges. Each student will create their own finished 10-20″ long log cabin textile to take home. Prerequisite: Students must have taken Warp & Weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom or be comfortable warping a rigid heddle loom using the direct warping method. All materials to warp and weave a log cabin textile are included for use. If you’re interested in learning to warp and weave on your own rigid heddle loom, please email Instructor Jeanine Ertl with what type of loom you have in advance. The loom should be all set up and in working order and ready to warp and weave on. All materials to warp & weave a log cabin textile are included for use. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome! Teens explore woodworking! Monday through Friday July 27 – July 31, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Ages 13+ years welcome! Woodworker Aleya Lanteigne welcomes teens for a week of skill-building in the woodshop! This camp introduces Teens to woodworking basics, properties of wood and machine safety while designing and completing one or two projects, dependent on the pace of each student. Teens will explore building their own bandsaw box and a wooden vase, time permitting. We invite Teens into our woman-run woodshop to learn shop safety and how to use machines such as the bandsaw, scroll saw, spindle sander and drill press. A mix of woodworking techniques, including hand tools and safe practice of machine operations, proper sanding and finishing will be covered. All materials are included. This camp is for teens with an interest in learning woodworking. Cell phones will be put away during this camp. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. A true story of laughter, love and a little cheek. A Yorkshire women’s club decides to take an unconventional route with their coming year’s fundraising calendar – rather than their typical photos of spectacular views of local landscapes or churches, it’s going to be photos of spectacular views of their own members wearing next to nothing! Their reasoning for the risqué move is honorable but it takes much convincing and plenty of liquid courage to capture each calendar girl pose month-by-month. This play blends humor, heart, and empowerment, telling the true-inspired story of ordinary women discovering courage, friendship, and self-acceptance along the way. "Calendar Girls" contains adult themes and language. There are scenes with hidden partial nudity. This production is best suited for those over the age of 13 and is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals. Join us for Art, Wine & Plática with XoQUE, a creative and healing workshop centered on printmaking, storytelling, and community connection. Participants will explore printmaking techniques and materials to reflect, reclaim wounded parts of the self, and reconstruct wholeness. Proceeds benefit the International Women’s Day 2026 Organizing Committee at Centro Cultural de la Raza and support the Serpiente Mural Renovation Project. Funds will help replace deteriorating exterior panels and commission a new serpiente mural—led by women-identified artists—preserving the Centro’s cultural legacy while uplifting new artistic voices.
