Each year the ARCS Foundation, San Diego Chapter, a non-profit organization led entirely by women, hosts a Scientist of the Year fundraiser to honor a preeminent local scientist. This year’s honoree, Dr. Sonia Ancoli-Israel, is a world-renowned leader in sleep and circadian rhythm research. Her work has significantly advanced our understanding of sleep disorders, aging, and cancer, with meaningful improvements in patient care. Her record of scientific excellence, mentorship and dedication to advancing research reflects the core values and mission of ARCS Foundation, making her a highly deserving honoree. Dr. Ancoli-Israel is a Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Professor of Research at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, a Master’s Degree from California State University, Long Beach and a PhD in Psychology from the University of California, San Francisco. ARCS San Diego invites you to join them for a celebration of science and scientists that is set for Sunday, May 17 (4-8 p.m.) at The Conrad Performing Arts Center in La Jolla. In addition to honoring Dr. Ancoli-Israel, the program will pay tribute to this year’s ARCS Scholars – all 50 of them – along with distinguished ARCS Scholar alumnus, Noah Milman, from the Sleep & Health Applied Research Program at Oregon Health & Science University. All funds raised at this event will support future ARCS Scholars. Through their research, these talented Scholars make outstanding contributions to advance science and keep America competitive on the global stage, which is the ARCS mission. ARCS San Diego has put together an exciting program for its signature event.
