  • A co-production of OTC and Scripps Ranch Theatre, "Lucky Stiff" tells the story of Harry, an English shoe salesman who receives the unexpected news that he has inherited a fortune from his late Uncle Anthony, on the condition that he takes his uncle’s dead body on a special trip to Monte Carlo. If Harry refuses to fulfill all of his uncle's last wishes exactly, the inheritance will go to the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn instead. It doesn’t help matters that Rita, Tony's lover with whom he embezzled $6 million behind her husband's back, and her brother Vinnie, who she blamed for the crime, have their own schemes to get at the money. Based on the novel "The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo" by Michael Butterworth, "Lucky Stiff" is a life-affirming comedy served up with a dash of danger featuring romance, disguises, farcical chases, and an omnipresent corpse. Friday performances begin at 8 p.m., Saturday performances are at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday performances begin at 2 p.m. Oceanside Theatre Company on Facebook / Instagram

About the book: Seven-year-old Leslie has a serious problem. Someone is trying to kill her. She and her little brother must confront the stark reality of living with their mother’s raging psychosis. Other family members try to help, but they are no match for the unpredictability that comes with mental illness. Once in foster care, Leslie learns that life doesn't improve. . . until one simple and unexpected question changes Leslie's world forever. Leslie Ferguson enjoyed a career as a high school English teacher and college writing instructor for two decades before relocating to San Diego to pursue work in the publishing industry. Currently, Leslie sits on the Board of Directors of the International Memoir Writers Association, and she loves performing original stories and poems. As an editor and book doctor, one of Leslie’s passions is helping other writers tell their own stories with courage and emotional honesty. Her multi-award-winning debut memoir, When I Was Her Daughter, tells her story of madness, loss, and survival as a foster kid in the 1980s.
