On Thursday, October 29, The Barktorium is hosting Escondido’s first-ever “Tricks for Treats” on Grand Avenue, bringing local businesses, families, and their four-legged friends together for a night of Halloween fun. Participating businesses along Grand Avenue will be handing out Halloween treats for both people and pups, giving families the opportunity to walk from business to business, enjoy the festivities, and show off their best costumes. The City of Escondido will also be on site taking professional photos of the dogs in costume. Those photos will be uploaded online, and the public will be invited to vote for their favorite costumes! Event Schedule 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. | Family Trick-or-Treating Families and their dogs can walk Grand Avenue at their own pace and visit participating businesses for treats. This hour is designed to be especially welcoming to dogs who may not be comfortable around large groups of other dogs. Families can enjoy the event without having to participate in the larger group walk. 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. | Tricks for Treats Pack Walk The second hour will be a Halloween-themed pack walk and trick-or-treat experience — essentially a dog costume parade down Grand Avenue! Dogs and their humans are encouraged to dress up, join the pack, visit participating businesses, take photos, and enjoy an evening celebrating Halloween together. Why This Event Is Special This is the first-ever Tricks for Treats event on Grand Avenue in Escondido, bringing together local businesses and the community for a unique Halloween experience centered around dogs. It also creates a great visual opportunity for local news coverage — hundreds of dogs and their owners dressed in Halloween costumes, walking down Grand Avenue, visiting local businesses, and participating in a community-wide costume celebration. Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista is marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month with "Breathe & Believe, United in Pink!" -- an evening filled with free Yoga Flow classes, decorate-and-take t-shirts, treats, music and more -- All paired with educational information on local women's and breast health services and a special interactive "Warrior Wall" honoring and remembering breast cancer patients and survivors. The free event will be held in the center's main outdoor Food Pavilion Tuesday, October 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. with 30-minute Yoga Flow classes hosted by Namaste Fitness at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Key to the evening's lineup is the opportunity to spread awareness about early detection from The Helen Knoll Foundation. The Helen Knoll Foundation has worked with Otay Ranch Town Center in previous years and is committed to spreading the word to local women about the importance of early detection and screening services for younger women. Donations to the Helen Knoll Foundation would be kindly accepted at this event. The center is hosting an oversized "Warrior Wall" during the event with residents welcome to place a commemorative personalized pink ribbon to signify either someone currently battling breast cancer, a survivor or a loved one unfortunately lost to the disease. "Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an important time to highlight education and screening options in our community and also celebrating the warriors in this fight," said Otay Ranch Town Center General Manager Tim Kilcourse.
