This class meets weekly on Mondays, 3-4 times each month, from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Ages 13+ welcome! Instructor-artist Lydia Kardos teaches this introductory ceramic handbuilding course for Teens. This month-long series is full of hands-on, hand building techniques in clay. Students will create functional and non-functional ceramic art. They’ll learn how to create with coils, slab construction and clay pinching methods. See the beauty of the final results as your pieces come out of the kiln. Students will create multiple pieces and learn how to glaze finished artwork. All materials included. Projects are changed regularly, so students can return month after month to continue to develop their skills! Drop-ins are welcome! Is your teen curious about taking this class? Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista will mark Hispanic Heritage Month with its annual Celebration and Family Festival on Tuesday, September 30 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The popular retail and dining destination in eastern Chula Vista is proud to once again host this community celebration filled with live music, cultural performances and free fun for the whole family celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month which runs September 15 to October 15. "As one of our cornerstone annual events, the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration is a fantastic opportunity for our neighbors and community to come together and honor the rich traditions and contributions of generations," said Otay Ranch Town Center General Manager Tim Kilcourse. "Paired with our popular weekly Farmers Market, the event provides countless opportunities to support local businesses, including a large number of locally owned, Hispanic-led vendors," he added. The event will feature musical and dance performances, meet and greet opportunities with themed characters, Loteria game with prizes, a fun photo booth, face painter and kids' giveaways tied to Hispanic Heritage Month. Famous for performing directly from historical notation and around a single music stand—as was customary during the Renaissance—Cappella Pratensis, under the direction of Tim Braithwaite, returns with a program centered on Dufay’s Missa Aurea for the Annunciation. This exquisite mass will be performed alongside the plainchant propers for the feast of the Annunciation and Marian motets by Dufay’s younger contemporary, Antoine Busnoys. Also featured is a dramatic chanting of the Gospel account of the Annunciation, fully aligned with the theatrical tradition of the Golden Mass. Tickets are available on our website.
