  • Since 1922, the Coronado Flower Show has invited neighbors and flower fans to gather “beneath the tent” to celebrate beauty, community, and heritage. Now in its 104th year, the festival takes place April 18-19; this year’s theme is “Welcome to the Jungle.” Organized by the Coronado Floral Association (CFA), the two-day festival is the largest tented flower show in the U.S. and Coronado’s longest running tradition. This year, the Association invites every visitor, exhibitor, volunteer, and gardener to wander into a wild and lush world where together the delicate and the bold, the native and the exotic, the sculptural and the wild promise: • Immersive installations, inspired by the forest canopy, understory, and hidden glades. • Botanical theatrics, featuring dramatic textures, tropical foliage, layered compositions, and surprise vignettes. • A lush visitor journey with meandering pathways, intimate hideaways, and moments of discovery. • Creative expression across horticulture and design, from floral arrangements to structural natural wonders. The main event is divided into five divisions: Horticulture, Design, Special Exhibits, Youth and Botanical Arts. Located at Spreckels Park, this two-day event includes landscape displays, a variety of floral competitions, educational lectures and demonstrations, live bandstand entertainment, food, a beer & wine garden with locally crafted beers, and shopping. The annual Coronado Flower Show is organized in partnership with the City of Coronado. Over 250 CFA volunteers work to make the flower show weekend a success. • Space 4 Art presents "The Color of Silence", a group exhibition curated by Francisco Eme. The exhibition opens with a public reception and live performances on Saturday, June 6 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Art Produce Gallery and will remain on view through July 1, 2026. Additional live performances by local musicians and noise artists will take place on Friday, June 20, activating the exhibition through sound-based interventions and experimental performance. "The Color of Silence" explores the complex interplay between silence, noise, emptiness, and saturation. Through monochromatic and dark visual languages alongside more strident sonic elements, the exhibition examines how silence can be perceived visually through subtle relationships between color and tone, space and non-space, absence and presence, and movement and stillness. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with Eme on this exhibition,” said Jennifer de Poyen, Space 4 Art’s executive director. “In addition to being a force for community-based art practices in the San Diego-Tijuana region, Eme is an amazing multidisciplinary artist and curator who brings fresh perspectives to all of his work.” Drawing from ideas rooted in sound composition and experimental music, the exhibition considers silence not simply as the absence of sound, but as a structural and emotional condition that gives meaning to sound itself. Without silence, sound would exist continuously, without pause, rhythm, or distinction. The participating artists investigate this tension through immersive and interdisciplinary works that engage visual art, installation, sound, and performance. As a physical phenomenon, complete silence can only exist within the vacuum of space, yet silence as a conceptual experience carries emotional and psychological weight. Throughout the exhibition, silence becomes associated with peace, grief, contemplation, isolation, and death, while noise emerges as interruption, confrontation, and vitality. Together, the works invite viewers to consider how perception is shaped through contrast, stillness, and sensory tension. The exhibit includes artists: Cheryl Nickel, Jenifer de Poyen, Jenna Leathers, Nick Lesley, Caity Fares, Andrew Alcasid, Joe Cantrell, Amy Cimini and Rabbitlight. Produced by Space 4 Art and presented at Art Produce Gallery, the exhibition is part of ongoing efforts to support artists and activate cultural dialogue across the region through the Prebys Foundation’s Arts Ecosystem Grant. • An eclectic collective of 19 artists embody the unifying theme “Better Together” in a contemporary fine art exhibition (Thumbprint Gallery) from July 3 - August 1, 2026. Free Opening Reception: Friday, July 3, 4-9 p.m. The month-long “Better Together” art exhibition presented by Thumbprint Gallery is guest curated by San Diego based artist Lourans Mikhail. Mikhail, who was born in Baghdad, Iraq and raised in Chicago, Illinois, hand-picked artists from San Diego, Los Angeles and across the country to animate the exhibition theme. “My vision was for people to feel inspired when they experience the numerous ways in which artists exemplify the value of togetherness,” explained Mikhail. Curator Lourans Mikhail is a painter, sculptor, and graphic designer, who spent 13 years as a US Marine. His own work is inspired by his Assyrian heritage, graffiti, comics, anime, cartoons, and fine art. In his art, Mikhail uses diverse media to explore different perspectives and challenge the narratives of socioeconomics, culture, politics, and race. “Being a curator of this exhibition is another way I get to draw on what I’ve experienced in life as an immigrant, a veteran, as a father…but this way I’m doing so through the most creative people I know.” The “Better Together” exhibition is on display at Thumbprint Gallery from July 3 to August 1 from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can also contact the gallery to request a private showing appointment. A free public Opening Reception will be held Saturday, July 3 on Friday, July 3 from 4-9 p.m. About Thumbprint Gallery Since 2009, Thumbprint Gallery is nestled in the heart of San Diego’s contemporary art scene, championing emerging and mid-career artists. The gallery aesthetic is a mix of pop culture, nostalgia, urban influences, and pop surrealism – reflective of co-owners Paul Ecdao and Johnny Tran. The two designed the gallery as a welcoming space for collectors and art enthusiasts to build connections with the diverse creative community drawn to La Jolla. Thumbprint Gallery is located blocks away from the beach at 920 Kline Street, La Jolla, CA 92037. Art lovers who appreciate works embodying this unifying theme will not want to miss an opportunity to meet the artists at the opening reception, free and open to the public.
