ArtWalk San Diego brings back its popular Summer Series, expanding this year to Liberty Station. This celebrated series of smaller-scale art shows will take place in the heart of Little Italy, in the Piazza della Famiglia and adjacent on Date Street, on Sundays, June 25, and July 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and at ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station on Fridays, June 2, and July 7 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The two Liberty Station events will be held in the North Promenade in conjunction with the popular “First Friday” ARTS DISTRICT, Liberty Station’s monthly celebration of all things creative. The monthly program offers an opportunity to meet working artists, discover outdoor public art installations, all while wandering and exploring the historic Liberty Station. The mini shows will display just 20-30 artists in an intimate setting, representing a variety of art mediums, including painting, sculpture, glass work, fine jewelry, photography and more. Watch, laugh, groan, or JOIN word nerds from across the city in a battle to see who's the punniest of them all—and win prizes! Pundemonium! is a three-part event based on the format used by pun contests in cities nationwide. Curious about competing? Here are the three ways you can do that! 1. Give a two-minute speech riddled with puns on a topic of your choice in "Battle of the PUNdits." Write down as many puns as you can think of on a given topic in two minutes during "Punslingers." You can do this in teams and you can sign up for it at the show. 3. Go head-to-head with opponents in a tournament-style pun-off in "The Punger Games." It's like the nerdiest rap battle you've ever seen. On Saturday, June 10th, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., the City of San Diego is inviting the public to provide input about what features they would like to see included in an ideal Ocean Beach Pier. The City is encouraging residents from throughout the region to attend and to bring their kids. Free ice cream, donated by Lighthouse Ice Cream, will be available, while supplies last. Fishing poles will be given to the first 20 kids and there will be 10 adult poles to be raffled off! Before the interactive portion of the workshop, City staff and consultants will provide a summary of findings to date, and present draft guiding principles for the project. The engineering and design team will also present information about design opportunities and constraints related to the construction of a potential replacement pier in the location of the existing Ocean Beach Pier, as well as the next steps in the design process. This is the 2nd in-person Community Workshop for the Ocean Beach Pier Renewal Project. The workshop on June 10 will be held at the Liberty Station Conference Center, 2600 Laning Road.
