San Diego County's unemployment rate decreased to 3.1% in September, down from a revised 3.4% in August, according to the latest figures released by the state Employment Development Department.

According to the county, more than 1,600 San Diegans have been diagnosed with a lab-confirmed case of influenza this season.

An October heat wave brought record high temperatures in parts of San Diego County.

Temperatures are expected to reach 96 in Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Chula Vista, National City, San Diego, Escondido, El Cajon, San Marcos, La Mesa, Santee and Poway.

The series matches two wild-card teams that both upset division champions in the National League Division Series.

The settlement is believed to be the largest ever in a personal injury case involving a vehicle collision against the federal government in San Diego history.

The announcement comes after a judge struck down San Diego's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, saying only the state can make that a requirement.

Earlier this month, supervisors unanimously voted to oppose any further placements of sexually violent predators until local jurisdictions are able to fully participate in the placement process, including having full veto authority.
