Army Pfc. Keith M. Williams, 19, of Visalia, Calif. was killed July 24 in Afghanistan by the blast of an improvised explosive device. Also killed in the explosion was Staff Sgt. Benjamin G. Prange, 30, of Hickman, Nebraska.

Army Pfc. Donnell A. Hamilton, Jr., 20, died July 24, at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas from an illness he contracted while deployed in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan.

The judges from the TV talent competition "America's Got Talent" voted unanimously on Wednesday night to send 21-year-old Army Pfc. Paul Ieti to Radio City Music Hall for the show's finals. Ieti, an active-duty soldier, recently returned from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Former POW and Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will not see or speak to his parents, despite their unwavering support during his five years in captivity. Bergdahl returned to active duty at Fort Sam Houston on Monday.

Soldier Robert Gabbert entrusted his beloved dog Baxter with his former girlfriend when he deployed to Afghanistan in March. His ex-flame then sold Baxter on Craigslist to another military family. A group of strangers who learned of Gabbert's plight on Facebook have now successfully negotiated Baxter's return to his original home.

Actor, musician, and humanitarian Gary Sinise will host a special screening Tuesday evening of the documentary "Travis: A Soldier's Story" at the Village Theater in Coronado. The film follows the journey of quadruple amputee Travis Mills as he recovers from devastating injuries he suffered in Afghanistan.

San Diego's Naval Health Research Center is looking for Wounded Warriors to take part in its six-year study on the quality of life for men and women who've been injured in the post 9/11 wars. Roughly 1,500 people have agreed to participate, but the Navy hopes to have 10,000 for the study.

Marine Corps Sgt. Thomas Z. Spitzer, 23, was killed Wednesday in Helmand province, Afghanistan while conducting combat operations. Spitzer was based at Twentynine Palms, California.

NATO today announced the death of an International Security Assistance Force service member in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday. According to NATO ISAF, the troop died "as a result of an enemy forces attack." The service member's nationality has not yet been released.
