Former State Senator Christine Kehoe Will Not Run For San Diego Mayor

Former Democratic State Senator, Christine Kehoe said she is not going to run for mayor.

Kehoe’s name has come as a possible candidate to run for the seat that will become vacant at the end of this week, when Bob Filner’s resignation becomes official.

Kehoe was a San Diego city council member in the 1990s and served four years in the California Assembly, eight years in the Senate.

There was speculation she might run since she was termed out of office in 2012. Toni Atkins, another potential democratic mayoral candidate who has declined the opportunity, would have had to abandon her role in the California State Assembly mid-term.

Kehoe said she is enjoying her current job as Executive Director of the California Plug-In vehicle Collaborative, which promotes the availability of all-electric cars.

After considering the option of throwing her hat in the ring for the San Diego mayor's seat, she has decided not to run.
