California lawmakers have given final approval to Gov. Jerry Brown’s nominee for state Attorney General.

The state Senate voted to confirm Rep. Xavier (“Javier”) Becerra (D-Los Angeles) Monday. The Assembly confirmed him earlier this month.

Democratic state Sen. Steven Bradford praised Becerra for vowing to fight the agenda of the Trump administration and Republican Congress.

“He’s the right Attorney General at the right time for this state, in light of what we’re facing on a national scale,” Bradford said.

But Senate Republican Leader Jean Fuller said she’s “afraid” of the resistance promised by Becerra and top California Democrats:

“I want someone who will say that they will work their hardest for Californians. I don’t want someone that says they’re going to fight,” Fuller said.

The governor’s office has announced that Brown will swear Becerra in at his State of the State address Tuesday morning to a joint session of the California Legislature.
