Taxpayers group wants disclosure of airport costs

A taxpayers' advocacy group says there needs to be a full disclosure of the costs involved with building a new San Diego airport, or expanding Lindbergh field. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has more.

A taxpayers' advocacy group says there needs to be a full disclosure of the costs involved with building a new San Diego airport, or expanding Lindbergh field. The San Diego County Taxpayers Association made a series of recommendations to the Airport Authority Board Monday. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has more.

The Taxpayers Association says voters should be given a complete assessment of costs associated with building an airport, including traffic needs like widening freeways and improving roads.
Association CEO Lani Lutar says in addition, there needs to be an economic analysis on the impact of a reduced military presence if a base is selected as an airport site.

Lutar: If you have on one side the airport authority claiming there will be a crisis if the new airport is not built, then it's only fair to then hear what the loss or decreased military presence will be to the region.

The authority listened to the recommendations without comment. It has a summer deadline to come up with an airport site that county residents will vote on in November.
