California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein is part of a last-ditch effort to complete an immigration reform bill today. KPBS Reporter Jill Morrison has more.

Feinstein and her colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee have to negotiate a compromise today on guest worker programs and figure out what to do with the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants currently in the U.S.

Otherwise, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist will push a bill to the Senate Floor tomorrow that will only address border security-and ignores the status of illegal immigrants. Feinstein is frustrated with the pressure from Senate Leadership.

Feinstein: I know the Majority Leader wants this bill on the floor. This bill is of huge repercussion in my state no question about it. I want to take my time with the bill.

But Feinstein has not decided whether she'd support a guest worker program. She says a plan that would only fill jobs in agriculture is a possibility. But she'll be up against lawmakers anxious for workers in construction and the service industry. From Capitol Hill, Jill Morrison, KPBS news.
