The Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays in San Diego is honoring local students for their work in the LGBT community. Tom Fudge speaks with two of those students about their experiences and a local PFLAG organizer about the scholarship program.

The awards ceremony will take place at the First Unitarian Universalist Church at 7 pm this evening. The public is welcome. For more information visit www.pflag.com

  • Mary Marchan (left) is a graduating senior from Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley. And the founder of the Mount Miguel Gay Straight Alliance.
  • Mary McQuillan (center) is a resident advisor at UCSD. Her upper-division independent research project studies LGBT identified choruses and music. She also serves as a member of the LGBT Speaker's Bureau.
  • Mark Thompson is the vice president of Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays in San Diego.
