California voters may get another chance to weigh in on a measure that would require doctors to notify parents before performing an abortion on a minor. Supporters of the proposed initiative say they've turned in more than enough signatures to qualify the measure for the November ballot. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
Californians defeated the proposal in last year's special election, when they voted against Prop 73. But the publisher of the San Diego Reader put up more than $2 million to bankroll another petition drive.
Campaign spokesman Albin Rhomberg says requiring parental notification before a minor can get an abortion makes sense.
Thomberg: Obviously we think this is a winning proposition, the polling is very good for it, and it would be kind of a defeatist attitude to give up on it, after we suffered the consequences of this peculiar special election.
But Planned Parenthood spokesman Vince Hall says enough is enough.
Hall: Well, this is a stunning abuse of the electoral process.
