California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger holds a summit on health care today in Los Angeles. The meeting is designed to come up some possible solutions to California's run-away health care costs. But critics call it an election-year ploy. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.

Governor Schwarzenegger says it's time come up with a plan to address the lack of affordability of health care. His aides say he has long record of achievement on health care issues.

Jerry Flanagan is with the Foundation for Taxpayer's and Consumer Rights. He says over the last three years, the governor has raised more than $750,000 from drug companies.

Flanagan: "He has raised more money than any other politician from drug companies other than President Bush. At the same time, Schwarzenegger has vetoed a series of bills that would have allowed seniors and other Californians to access more affordable prescription drugs."

Today's health care summit will bring together politicians, insurance company officials, and academics. Critics will be protesting the event.
