Managers of the San Diego Food Bank say the charity will keep feeding the county’s hungry despite reports that the agency might shut down. All but one of the charity’s board members quit this week in a dispute over control of the service. KPBS Radio’s Andrew Phelps has more.
The food bank continued with business as usual today, helping distribute food to the homeless. Randy Jones is the board chairman of the Neighborhood House Association, which oversees the food bank. Jones says there will not be any disruption in service.
Jones: People who are served by the San Diego Food bank will continue to be fed despite the resignation, the abrupt resignation, by the Food Bank Board of Directors.
Eight of the food bank’s nine board members resigned in protest over financial disputes with their superiors. The board members say Neighborhood House should allow the food bank to be fully autonomous. Jones says those demands are unrealistic right now and get in the way of delivering services to the needy. The food bank is looking for new board members. Some volunteers have stepped up. For KBPS, I’m Andrew Phelps.
