Richard Gere stars in The Hunting Party (The Weinstein Company)
The Hunting Party (opening Sept. 21 throughout San Diego) claims to be inspired by real events. But an opening title informs us that "only the most ridiculous parts of this story are true." What this particular story involves is a cameraman and TV reporter team that has specialized in covering some of the worst fighting and events in recent years. The film comes from writer-director Richard Shepard who two years ago delivered the dark but jaunty hit man buddy film The Matador .
The film was inspired by an Esquire article written by Scott Anderson about five journalists who meet in Sarajevo some five years after the Balkan war ended. The journalists then decide to embark on an adventure to try to track down a notorious Serbian war criminal that had managed to elude U.S. and U.N. efforts to capture him.

Do you know of any films that show a Serbian point of view that you could recommend? Do you think Emir Kusturica shows an alternate perspective?

i do not agree with the person saying she/he is writing from Bosnia. if he/she has a least a little common sense she/he would not write such a comment. i am from Bosnia and i know excellently well what was the situation here during the war and who was responsible for war crimes. the way the movie presented the situation in several years after the war is completely true.
what i particularly like about this movie is the way it represents the wealth of my country, not only the natural wealth, but also the wealth of our language, of our manners and way of life. it is a great thing that gere actually speaks in Bosnian, in some parts you can hear ezan(call for muslim prayer)...
what is, also, very important is that this movie draws attention to the historical facts about the war 1992-1995.
