San Diego’s Index of Leading Economic Indicators Falls Again

Tom Fudge: For years, the best measure of the San Diego economy has been the Index of Leading Economic Indicators . The index is compiled by USD economist Alan Gin. And the one that came out last week showed us how the local economy did in August – and it was all bad news.

Building permits? Down. Stock prices? Down. Consumer confidence? Down. Unemployment insurance? Down, which is to say that claims went up. Overall, Gin says the index showed a 1.4 percent decrease. It's the 16th time in the last 17 months that the index has fallen.
