Grantville residents want to make sure San Diego can’t take any more development money from the community. KPBS reporter Katie Orr has details.
The neighborhood has been fighting since last summer to stop San Diego from transferring more than 30 million dollars slated for redevelopment to a downtown trolley improvement project. State Senator Christine Kehoe agrees with the residents. She’s sponsoring legislation to close a loophole in state law that allows for such transfers.
Kehoe: Grantville folks shouldn’t be paying for those downtown projects anymore than folks in North Park or La Jolla or Sorrento Valley. Those citywide, if they’re citywide improvements everyone should pitch in. Grantville taxpayers, in their redevelopment funds, are paying for projects in their redevelopment area.
Kehoe says her legislation would require cities to show specific reasons for why they want to transfer funds out of redevelopment areas.
