Before the game, Manager Bud Black said the Padres need to treat every game like it's the playoffs.
"Every pitch is critical, every play is critical, we're excited about the challenge. We're excited about making the playoffs depending on how we play. So really our fate is in our own hands about how we go about the next five games," Black said.
The Padres now trail the San Francisco Giants by two games in the National League Western Division.
