SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The U.S. Senate has confirmed Ann Ravel, the head of California's political watchdog agency, to the Federal Election Commission.
The Oakland Tribune reports the 64-year-old Ravel was confirmed by a voice vote on Monday.
President Barack Obama nominated Ravel in June to fill a Democratic vacancy on the six-member bipartisan commission.
She has chaired California's Fair Political Practices Commission since March 2011. She has been an outspoken critic of money's influence over politics, especially the torrent of cash unleashed by the U.S. Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United decision.
Ravel says she'll spend the next month finishing up work for the state commission, before moving to Washington. She plans to keep her Los Gatos home.
Also confirmed Monday was Washington, D.C., attorney Lee Goodman, who was nominated to fill a Republican vacancy.
