You can now own a piece of San Diego sports history.
The San Diego Hall of Champions is auctioning off items from its former museum in Balboa Park.
Items up for bid include a Gold Glove trophy given to San Diego Padres Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn.
"Everybody always remembers Tony as a great hitter," said Terry Melia of SCP Auctions, the company selling the items. "Mr. Padre collected 3,141 hits, but he also earned five Gold Gloves during the course of his career, this is the very first one.”
Other items include a 1985 Preakness Stakes trophy, gear from the one-time San Diego Clippers and Chargers, and a 13-foot statue of Sylvester Stallone, made for Rocky III in 1982. The bidding for the statue starts at $50,000.
Before it closed in June, the Hall was considered the largest multi-sport museum in the country, with over 5,000 pieces in its collection.
"The costs became out of control and the museum model wasn't sustainable," said Executive Director Drew Moser.
The Hall recently relocated its offices to Del Mar, and Moser said proceeds from the auction will help support other programs.
"We’ve got about 10 annual recognition events that we host," said Moser. "We’ve got a number of community outreach programs, we’ve got the Breitbard Hall of Fame that just opened at Petco Park.”
The San Diego Hall of Champions has 217 items listed in the auction. Online bidding runs through Nov. 4.
