March 19 marks one year since Californians were ordered to stay at home to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The worldwide pandemic up-ended our lives in unimaginable ways. In California alone, nearly 3.5 million people have contracted COVID-19 and more than 47,000 people have died from it.

Many of the simple joys of life — visiting grandparents, eating in a restaurant, playing in the park with friends — have been on hold for nearly a year. But now that vaccines are being administered, many see signs of hope on the horizon.
