Coping with Lyme disease in "Under Our Skin"

Local Lyme Literate Doctor to Speak at Film

I just caught up with the Lyme disease documentary "Under Our Skin" (currently still playing at Reading Gaslamp Stadium Theaters) and had a number of people posting comments about the disease's impact right here in San Diego. I'd like to thank local San Diego Lyme disease activist Anne Corazza for letting me know about a special screening of "Under Our Skin" July 9 at the Reading Gaslamp Stadium Theaters. Following the 4:30pm screening and preceding the 6:55pm one, there will be a discussion with Dr. Therese Yang, who is being promoted as the only Lyme Literate Medical Doctor here in San Diego County.

The comments I received on my review brought home in very real terms how far reaching the effects of the disease are. If you have not yet seen the film, I recommend that you do because it is a real eye-opener and not just in terms of Lyme disease. That might be the focus of the film but filmmaker Andy Abrahams Wilson lays out information about how doctors, patients, and the government interact that sheds light on the health industry as a whole. So "Under Our Skin" ends up enlightens viewers on why the public interest and patients' rights are not always made the top priority by the government and health care industry. Wilson has a vested interest in telling his story well because his sister was diagnosed with the disease. Maybe that's one reason why his documentary feels passionate and driven by a need to create awareness not only about Lyme disease but also about problems that have become inherent in our current health system.
