Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead once revealed that Grizzly Bear was his favorite band, a dreamy endorsement for any indie band (Grizzly Bear toured with Radiohead in 2008). The four-piece folksy, psychadelic, experimental band from Brooklyn play a sold-out show at the Belly Up Tavern tomorrow night (Wed, Oct. 21st).
In 2008, Grizzly Bear co-headlined a show with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Now that wunderkind Gustavo Dudamel begins his much-anticipated tenure as the orchestra's music director, it'd be great if Grizzly Bear was invited back so the band and orchestra can actually share the stage!
Speaking of the 28-year-old Dudamel, the media have continued to wax rhapsodic about the young maestro's compelling story. Reviews of the LA Phil's opening performance two weeks ago, which featured John Adams' "City Noir" and Mahler's Symphony No. 1 were mostly positive. Now you too can see what all the fuss is about. KPBS-TV will broadcast the L.A. Phil's season opener with Dudamel at the helm Wednesday night at 9 p.m.
To sum up, you can make your hump day a musical one - watch Gustavo Dudamel kill it with some John Adams OR listen to the new Grizzly Bear album. Of course, if you're one of the lucky ones seeing them live, we all have hump day envy!
