If you are tired of all those good tidings and good cheer, here's the perfect antidote: Ho-Ho Horrible Imaginings Christmas Splatterganza on December 22 at 7pm at the Tenth Avenue Theater.
Miguel Rodriguez, the evil mastermind behind the Horrible Imaginings Film Festival last month, is at it again. This time he brings San Diego horror fans a special treat and evening of alternative holiday fare. The centerpiece of the evening is the feature film "Christmas Evil," a 1980 tale of a psychotic Santa Claus from Lewis Jackson. The film's original title was "You Better Watch Out" and that's an accurate warning for this twisted tale of anti-holiday cheer. Jackson will introduce his film and then take questions after. Plus you can get your photo taken with a demented Santa in the lobby.
Rodriguez also serves up a pair of holiday appetizers with the short films "Thankskilling" and "Treevenge." These are not film for the weak of heart. But they are a pair of hilarious, over-the-top horror-comedy flicks. "Thankskilling" is about an evil fowl... I mean foul-mouthed talking turkey that goes around killing humans. It's lewd, crude, gory and damn funny. The second short comes from Canada and played earlier this year at the Blacklist Horror Film Festival. "Treevenge" is a work of low-budget genius and it deserves this encore screening. It spins a tale of Christmas trees seeking revenge on the humans that chop them down, stake them on tree stands, and put silly decorations on them. This is one deliciously sick and twisted work.
I hope you will come on down to the Tenth Avenue Theater to support some alternative horror fare in San Diego. Please note that this program is not for the squeamish or the little ones.
