A newly released survey of California's small-business owners finds a lot of optimism that the state's smaller companies are moving in the right direction.
The third annual California Bank and Trust Survey reached out to nearly 700 of the state's business owners.
The online poll was conducted in April and reached out to business owners of companies with fewer than 50 workers and less than $10 million in annual revenue.
California Bank and Trust's senior vice president Steve Borg said the news is good for the economy because small businesses generate the jobs that are helping drive California's gradual economic recovery. More than half of the companies polled indicated they plan to add staff in 2014.
Almost 9 in 10 small-business owners surveyed thought their firms were moving in the right direction. Eighty-seven percent of those polled though they would grow their business in the coming year.
The survey also found most small firms used social media, many did business over the Internet and 2 in 5 company's generated sales from international markets.
