People receiving unemployment benefits since March 29 have been eligible for an extra $600 per week in Pandemic Additional Compensation funded by the federal government, an amount that some say discourage people from looking for work.
That benefit ended this week. Democrats have proposed extending the $600 weekly benefit amount, while Republicans are proposing a cut to $200 per week.
Democrats in the California legislature have their own proposal to extend the $600 if the federal government does not take action.
