Law students will hit the streets in the Gaslamp and East Village Friday to see who collects the most donations for relief efforts in Japan.
Thomas Jefferson School of Law students planned the "Project Japan'' contest for students, faculty and guests and will donate all money raised to the American Red Cross's relief efforts in Japan, said Chris Saunders, spokesman for the law school.
Groups of participants will carry jars around the Gaslamp and East Village between 5 and 7 p.m. to collect donations, Saunders said. The groups will leave from the law school campus at 1155 Island Ave. at 5 p.m.
Lance Henry, a first-year student at the law school, said he organized the event as a chance for him and his classmates to enact change.
"We always talk about why we are in law school, and many of us answer, `to make a difference in the world,' '' Henry said. "Last Sunday we just decided we wouldn't wait to have a law degree to start making that difference.''
