Approaching Storm To Bring Rain, Snow To San Diego County

March has been like a lamb the past couple of weeks, but the month could go out like a lion with rain and snow coming to San Diego County, a National Weather Service meteorologist said today.

About a half-inch of rain should fall in coastal and valley areas from late Wednesday through Thursday morning, said Stefanie Sullivan of the NWS.

`"It's a cold system that's coming down,'' Sullivan said.

She said coastal high temperatures will plummet into the low-to-mid 60s by Tuesday and the high 50s on Wednesday.

The snow level will start at 5,000 feet -- low enough for the Laguna Mountains -- and drop down to 4,400 feet by Thursday morning and 4,000 feet that afternoon, she said.

Interstate 8 east of Pine Valley crests just above the 4,000-foot level.

A 10-15 mph breeze will accompany the storm, with stronger winds in the mountains and deserts, she said.

Sullivan said the weather will dry out by next weekend.
