Strong and gusty winds are expected to develop in the mountains of San Diego County Monday, which could cause problems for drivers on area roadways.
A National Weather Service wind advisory for the mountains is scheduled to remain in effect from 10 a.m. Monday until 3 a.m. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour were forecast for the advisory period, along with gusts of up to 65 mph in wind-prone areas such as the deserts slopes and foothills.
"Surface low pressure developing over Nevada will pull strong westerly winds over the mountain crests and onto the desert slopes later this morning through tonight," according to the weather service.
Forecasters said the wind may lead to hazardous travel conditions and lowered visibility due to blowing dust along area roadways. Affected areas could include portions of Interstate 8.
Forecasters said the winds would gradually weaken late Monday night into Tuesday morning.
