The San Diego County Parks and Recreation Department will be closing four county parks for the month of August due to the expectation of extreme heat at those locations, according to county officials.
The closures are scheduled every year as a precaution, according to a county statement released Friday.
The parks affected include El Capitan Preserve near Lakeside, Mount Gower Preserve near Ramona, Hellhole Canyon Preserve in Valley Center and Wilderness Gardens in Pala.
They will reopen on Sept.1 in time for Labor Day weekend. Agua Caliente Regional Park near Julian has been closed all summer and will reopen Labor Day weekend.
There are almost 100 other county parks and preserves that will remain open during the month of August, including the newly-restored 22.5-mile trail system for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians at the Tijuana River Valley Regional Park near the border.
