A text message service for expectant and new moms in San Diego is expanding. The free service delivers health information to mobile phones in English and Spanish.
Text4Baby delivers three text messages per week during a woman's pregnancy and her baby's first year of life. The messages give timely health tips and information about local resources.
The service is expanding to include reminders about childhood immunizations.
San Diego mom Maria Isabel Rocha said Text4Baby helped her prepare for giving birth to her son.
"And after I had my baby, it has helped me to actually plan ahead on his appointments and what I should be looking towards every month, or as he's growing and his development," Rocha said.
About 6,300 new and expectant moms use Text4Baby in San Diego County. The Council of Community Clinics says it plans to encourage more women to sign up for the service.
