A San Diego federal judge has ordered government and ACLU attorneys to submit plans for finding and reunifying families separated at the U.S.-Mexico border. Judge Dana Sabraw is also expected to rule soon on whether the government can continue deporting families immediately after they’re reunited.
Tuesday night, a Frontline investigation traces the origins of the family separation policy and examines how the current and previous administration have handled minors at the border. The film also tells how the effects of forcibly separating children from their parents can linger in the children’s lives.
Martin Smith, the correspondent for the documentary "Separated: Children at the Border," previews the film Tuesday on Midday Edition.
