The 92nd Academy Awards take place Sunday.

Among this year's nominees is the DC Comics-inspired "Joker" with 11 nominations, including for Best Motion Picture. Trailing "Joker" is Martin Scorsese's "The Irishman," Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" and Sam Mendes "1917" with 10 nominations each. South Korean film "Parasite" also nabbed six nominations.

KPBS film critic Beth Accomando, who just gave out her Cinema Junkie Awards and Moviewallas’ Yazdi Pithavala joined Midday Edition on Friday to discuss the nominations and possible winners.

Before joining KPBS she reported on Vatican affairs, social, and cultural issues in Rome, Italy. She also contributed to a documentary on sex abuse in the Catholic Church.
