Monica Montgomery Responds To Criticism Over SDPD Funding
San Diego City Councilmember Monica Montgomery held a virtual "healing" town hall last week to respond to criticism from the community.
Despite hours of public testimony, mostly from people who urged the council to make cuts to the police department, Montgomery voted in favor of a city budget that left police funding intact. The calls to slash the police department's budget came amid widespread protests against police brutality and racism.
Montgomery joined Midday Edition on Tuesday to discuss her vote, police reform and her vision for the city's new Office of Race and Equity.
