This poignant poem comes from the blog for Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE), which was created in Nov. 2007 for warriors and their families needing help with psychological health and traumatic brain injury issues.
The poem was written by a 40-year-old combat medic with the 101st Airborne Division who served two tours of duty in Iraq. He's been at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for more than two years now, trying to recover from a spinal injury and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Writing, he says, "has been a wonderful outlet, one of my few outlets for easing the psychological strain of war."
